If you are having trouble downloading or viewing the HBOT paper, check the
following steps:
Have you downloaded a file called "HBOT2.pdf" to your computer, and is that
file about 153K in size? If not, return to the main
page and try the download again.
Is the application "Adobe Acrobat Reader" installed on your computer? If
not, follow the instructions on the main page to
download the installer for this free application from Adobe. Then install
Acrobat Reader and try the download again (see also the next tip).
Is Adobe Acrobat Reader configured for "Web Browser Integration"? This means
that the file opens directly in your web browser using the Adobe Acrobat plugin,
which apparently doesn't always work. For example, when I have Web Browser Integration turned on (Microsoft
Internet Explorer 5.0, Windows 2000), the file downloads but is blank! I have no idea why. What worked for me
was to turn off "Web Browser Integration" in the Preferences of Adobe Acrobat
Reader. Open Acrobat Reader, choose "Preferences > General" on the File Menu, and
then uncheck the "Web Browser Integration" checkbox. Then, you can bypass the plugin and view the
file in the Acrobat Reader application. Or, you could just use a Macintosh instead of a Windows
machine; the download has always worked fine on my Mac! 8)
If you are still having trouble, my advice is to try downloading the file on a
different computer (friend, office, local library, etc.). I'm afraid I'm unable
to give personalized technical support, or mail out printed copies of the
paper.
